West Jordan, UT Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Section 7-3-6(A)(13) of the West Jordan City Code lists 15 specific parking prohibitions, and the 72-hour rule sits among them alongside bans on blocking crosswalks, fire lanes, and railroad crossings. The clock runs continuously: once a vehicle has sat in one spot on any city street for more than 72 hours, it becomes a violation even if it was never moved. Under section 7-3-4, the person or entity in whose name the vehicle is registered is strictly liable for the citation and any penalty, whether or not they were the one who parked it there.

Enforcement falls to either a sworn law enforcement officer or a parking enforcement official under section 7-3-13, and citations may be prosecuted as either a criminal offense or, more commonly, as a civil citation that follows the administrative citation process set out in Title 16 of the code. Civil penalties are set by the city's comprehensive fee schedule rather than fixed in the parking chapter itself, so the dollar amount changes as the council updates that schedule. Section 7-3-8 lets a law enforcement officer or parking enforcement official immobilize, move, or impound a vehicle found parked in violation of any part of chapter 3, and section 7-3-13 separately authorizes immobilizing any vehicle carrying four or more unpaid parking citations under Utah Code section 41-6a-1409.

The 72-hour cap and the rest of chapter 3 were most recently amended by Ordinance 24-51 on November 6, 2024, and again by Ordinance 26-11 on February 24, 2026.
