Doral, FL Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Section 80-258 governs permanent signs for commercial and retail uses citywide, and subsection (a)(6) sets the standard for window signs: one per establishment, with a maximum sign area of 25 percent of the window frontage, and illumination is prohibited outright. Because window signs typically do not require structural work, the section exempts them from the standard building permit under Section 80-33 unless structural components trigger Florida Building Code review, but every window sign still needs Planning and Zoning Department approval through a dedicated window sign application.

That application must identify the business name, address and unit number, the total window area in square feet, the proposed sign area in square feet, the materials used, and a diagram of the sign. Any window sign that existed when this ordinance took effect and does not meet the current standard has a twelve-month grace period to come into compliance. This nonresidential standard is separate from the smaller four-square-foot window sign allowance for residential clubhouses under Section 80-233, and separate from the six-square-foot temporary sign exemption in Section 80-42(a) for small signs that are not electrically illuminated.

A business that skips the Planning and Zoning application, exceeds the 25 percent frontage cap, or illuminates a window sign is out of compliance and subject to the same enforcement track as any other prohibited sign under Article III of Chapter 80.
