Lauderhill, FL Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Sec. 10-4 of the Lauderhill Code requires garbage and trash receptacles to be maintained at the rear or side of any residence or business, but allows front-door pickup carts to be set out no earlier than the weekend before the scheduled pickup date and requires them removed from the front of the property no later than 6:00 p.m. on the day of pickup. A property that violates this placement window faces a graduated fee schedule tracked over a rolling twelve-month calendar-year period: the first through third violations draw only a warning, the fourth costs $50.00, the fifth and sixth cost $75.00 each, the seventh and eighth cost $100.00 each, the ninth and tenth cost $250.00 each, and the eleventh and any subsequent violation cost $500.00 each.

The code enforcement division issues the garbage violation notices, which the finance department bills on the water/utility account, and the property owner bears ultimate responsibility for payment even if a tenant used the service. Unpaid fines draw a 10 percent penalty after thirty days and go to a collection agency after ninety days, with the violator liable for collection costs and legal fees. Receptacles referenced in Sec. 10-3 must also be enclosed on three sides by a solid fence at least four feet high (or as high as the receptacle, if taller), with a roughly six-inch curb to stop containers rolling out of the enclosure, and no building permit issues until the building official has separately permitted the container's construction and location, a $3.00 permit fee.

Anyone hit with a garbage violation notice can appeal in writing to the chief code enforcement officer within ten days under Sec. 10-4.1, with a further appeal to the city manager available within thirty days of an adverse decision.
