Flagstaff, AZ Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

The Flagstaff City Council's solid waste chapter runs bulk collection on a once-every-four-week rotating schedule for single-family residential properties. The standard pile limit is five feet by five feet by ten feet of combined yard waste and bulk waste; anything larger requires a special collection arranged for an additional fee. Brush, tree limbs, and cuttings placed for regular bulk pickup cannot exceed five feet in length or twelve inches in diameter. Timing and placement are specific: items may go out no earlier than the Monday immediately preceding the scheduled collection week and no later than 5:00 a.m. on the Monday of that week, set within plain view from the public right-of-way, placed parallel to the street along the property line, and kept off sidewalks, curbing or the right-of-way in a way that would interfere with pedestrians, vehicles, or mechanized collection equipment.

Piles must sit at least four feet from any structure. Appliances, air conditioners, and other refrigerant-holding items are excluded from normal bulk service; a customer wanting them collected must remove the locking mechanism or door from any freezer, refrigerator, stove, or chest and schedule a special collection, which can carry a refrigerant evacuation fee or require a certificate of refrigerant extraction (Section 7-04-001-0008(A)(3)). Construction and demolition debris, large auto parts such as engines, transmissions and axles, tires, used oil, and rock, soil, or concrete materials are unacceptable in bulk service and will be left uncollected.

Multifamily properties are not on this rotating schedule; they use bin service, City automated service, or a licensed hauler at the Director's discretion (Section 7-04-001-0008(A)(2)). For anything over the standard pile size, Section 7-04-001-0010(B)(4) charges the residential customer for equipment, manpower and landfill disposal at a half-hour minimum rate.
