Flagstaff, AZ Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

The City defines green waste in Section 7-04-001-0003 as yard waste including leaves, grass clippings, tree trimmings, brush and other plant growth of no more than four feet in length and less than one-half inch in diameter. For disposal, the Landfill Tipping Fee Schedule in Section 7-04-001-0010(H)(3) sorts customers into three categories. Category 1, City residents who already pay for City of Flagstaff water and refuse service, haul green waste consisting of tree limbs, logs, stumps and Christmas trees to the Cinder Lake Landfill for free, though the schedule specifically notes that pine needles and leaves are NOT green waste for fee purposes.

Category 2, non-City residents in Coconino County and City residents who do not pay for City water and refuse service, get the same free green waste rate. Category 3, commercial haulers including licensed solid waste collection companies, pay $43.00 per ton for green waste instead of the free residential rate. All three categories are billed on top of the $2.50 per-ton Environmental Maintenance Facility fee and any state or federal charges passed through by the City (Section 7-04-001-0010(H)(1)-(2)). Beyond the landfill drop-off route, residents can also get yard waste picked up at the curb combined with their regular bulk waste allowance: Section 7-04-001-0008(A)(3) lets a pile of combined yard waste and bulk waste up to five feet by five feet by ten feet go out on the once-every-four-week bulk schedule, with brush and tree limbs capped at five feet long and twelve inches in diameter. Anything larger than that combined limit requires a special collection at an additional fee under Section 7-04-001-0010(B)(4).
