Flagstaff, AZ Trash & Recycling: Recycling Requirements (2026)

Section 7-04-001-0008(A)(1) requires a minimum of one automated solid waste container and one automated recycling container for each dwelling unit served by the City's automated collection system, with collection provided at least once each week or as required by State of Arizona regulations. Residents with a handicap, or anyone the Director or designee determines cannot place the automated containers out themselves, get special roll-out service performed by Environmental Services employees, who return the containers after collection. Multifamily properties under subsection (A)(2) are collected by either the automated or bin system, or by a licensed solid waste collection company, with the Director choosing the system based on unit count and waste volume, again at least weekly.

Glass is excluded from standard curbside recycling but is offered separately under subsection (A)(4): the City collects glass recyclables from residential properties for a $3.55 monthly fee, delivered in its own container, with pickup on the Wednesday of the property's regular bulk waste collection week. Putting the wrong material in a recycling container is separately punished under Section 7-04-001-0014(B) with a $40.00 contamination fine per occurrence.
