Glen Cove, NY Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Under Glen Cove City Code § 235-23(H), scrap or bulk metal goes to curbside only on the days the City has scheduled for that route, and the resident must first notify the Department of Public Works to arrange the pickup. The City caps the load at four items per location per pickup day, and any metal pipe set out for recycling cannot exceed four feet in length. Ordinary household rubbish carries its own ceiling under § 235-30(B): a maximum of 300 pounds per collection day, or four bundles of no more than 75 pounds each, or eight baskets or containers.

Anything heavier only goes out through a special collection. Trees, tree branches, large bushes and logs that have not been cut down and bundled the way § 235-23 requires fall into that special-collection category, and the City will only take them when two workers can load the material onto the truck by hand. Bedding and mattresses qualify for special collection too, but only if they arrive completely wrapped in plastic, a rule aimed at blocking the spread of infectious or contagious disease through discarded bedding.

The Director of Public Works sets the charges for these special pickups, including a standing fee schedule for private and commercial accounts generating more than three cubic yards of refuse a month, and that billing can be audited once a year on written request. Commercial waste bills are due within 15 days, and an unpaid balance older than 30 days draws a 10% late charge that can become a lien on the property under City Charter § C9-15.
