The City of Upland, through franchised hauler Burrtec, provides generous bulky-item disposal for residential customers. Residential barrel customers can request free bulky item pickups up to four times in a rolling calendar year, with a limit of five items per collection. Accepted items include furniture, mattresses, appliances, electronic waste, and other items too large to fit in the trash barrel. To arrange a pickup, residents call Burrtec Customer Service about one week prior to their scheduled collection day, or schedule online at burrtec.com/request-services. In addition to curbside service, the city and Burrtec periodically host a Community Bulky Item Disposal and Shred Event (for example, at Memorial Park), open to Upland residents only with identification required; accepted items at these events have included appliances, metals, BBQs, mattresses, furniture, rugs and tires, while household hazardous waste, dirt, rock and construction waste are not accepted. Burrtec also offers curbside electronic waste collection and seasonal Christmas tree recycling. Items that do not fit in the barrel should not simply be left at the curb without scheduling a pickup. Contacts: Burrtec residential customer service (909) 931-4150 or (909) 949-0500; Upland Public Works (909) 291-2930.
Bulky items left at the curb without a scheduled pickup, or items beyond the five-per-pickup limit or four-per-year allowance, may not be collected and can become a property maintenance issue. Hazardous waste and construction debris are excluded and must be disposed of separately.
