Broomfield, CO Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 8-04-025(A), enacted by Ord. No. 2242 on September 10, 2024, makes residential refuse collection mandatory rather than optional for covered properties inside the City and County of Broomfield: the city's contracted hauler must furnish residential refuse collection services to all residents except the sources specifically excluded under § 8-04-026, commercial and industrial properties, buildings with eight or more units, and homeowners' associations running an active group waste contract. Subsection (A) also requires the contracted hauler to supply single-stream recycling containers to every resident covered by the program.

Subsection (B) sets the placement rule that defines the collection schedule in practice: containers must be placed in the street in front of the residence, or in the alley adjacent to it, on a schedule the city establishes and the contracted hauler communicates to residents, rather than on a day residents pick for themselves. Fees for the mandatory service are set by the city's contract with its licensed hauler under § 8-04-028, and residents who opt out of the contracted hauler without qualifying for an exclusion still owe the city's minimum service fee, billed with water and sewer charges.

Broomfield Public Works administers the hauler contract, and the exact collection day for a given street is set administratively rather than fixed in the Code text, so residents confirm it through the city's published collection calendar rather than the ordinance itself.
