Bossier City, LA Trash & Recycling: Dumpster Rules (2026)

Section 12.7.10 applies whenever a dumpster, trash container or recyclable-material area is visible from the street frontage or from an adjoining residential property. The enclosure itself must be built of masonry material and include a gate or set of gates; if the gate side faces the street or adjoining residence, the gates must be opaque, and they must be kept closed rather than propped open. Height is fixed relative to the container: the enclosure must stand at least two feet taller than the dumpster it screens, but it cannot exceed 10 feet without review by the Metropolitan Planning Commission.

Any enclosure placed within the front yard must be landscaped, with the plantings oriented to face the adjoining properties and the street rather than the building. Enclosures cannot sit inside any designated streetscape or buffer yard, protecting those separately-required landscaped strips from being consumed by trash storage. The rule carves out one exemption: development within the A-1 and A-2 Airbase Buffer Zones and the Industrial districts does not have to meet these enclosure standards, reflecting the more utilitarian character the code allows near Barksdale Air Force Base and in industrial areas.

Because Section 12.7.10 sits inside the architectural design article, its enclosures go through the same Zoning Office review as the rest of a project's site plan before construction begins.
