Gretna, LA Trash & Recycling: Dumpster Rules (2026)

Any bulk container used with mechanical (front, rear or side-loading) collection service in the City of Gretna requires a permit issued by the city under Sec. 48-6(c). The container itself must be rust- and corrosion-resistant, fitted with tight lids or doors to keep out insects and rodents, and built watertight, leakproof and weatherproof. Owners must keep it covered except while it is being filled or emptied, keep it from overfilling so the lid cannot close, and keep the surrounding area clean. Placement on any street or public right-of-way is flatly barred, and responsibility for where the container sits falls on the container's owner, not the hauler.

These are separate, stackable requirements: a business can hold a valid $100 placement permit and still be cited if the enclosure fence is short, made of a see-through material, or left open outside the pickup window.
