Kenner, LA Trash & Recycling: Dumpster Rules (2026)

Kenner Code of Ordinances § 9½-4 folds dumpster placement into the same refuse-accumulation section that governs household garbage containers. Subsection (g) requires that before a commercial waste collection company drops off or locates any dumpster within the city, the customer must have obtained, or show evidence of having applied for, a building permit approving where the dumpster will sit; a hauler cannot simply place a container on a lot without that paperwork. Subsection (h) folds in the City of Kenner Building Code's Article 203 as an additional layer of dumpster regulation, and subsection (i) requires every dumpster to be properly screened from view and kept deodorized and sanitized, addressing both the visual and nuisance impact of a roll-off box sitting on a commercial lot.

Subsection (j) adds a construction-specific requirement: anyone pulling a commercial building permit for new construction or renovation must keep an on-site dumpster, sized to hold all of the project's construction debris and located where code enforcement approves, emptied as needed for the life of the project; a residential permit holder instead must keep an on-site trash-retaining structure at least eight feet by eight feet and four feet tall, built of temporary construction fencing on wood or metal bracing, also emptied as needed. Kenner's code enforcement department approves dumpster and trash-structure locations and administers the building-permit tie-in, and any owner, lessee, or agent who violates the section is subject to the same penalty as the general refuse rule: up to a $200 fine, up to 30 days in jail, or both, under subsection (k).
