Kenner, LA Trash & Recycling: Recycling Requirements (2026)

Kenner Code of Ordinances § 9½-5(f) authorizes the mayor to add a curbside recycling fee of one dollar and ninety cents per dwelling unit onto the existing garbage collection fee, with the two folded together into what the code calls the solid waste collection fee. That combined charge is billed bi-monthly along with the Jefferson Parish waterworks account. Section 9½-5(f)(1) lets heads of household who are 65 years of age or older apply for a fifty percent reduction in the Solid Waste Recycling Fee once they meet the city's established requirements for that senior discount.

The broader fee structure in § 9½-5 makes the whole solid waste charge, recycling included, subject to the same delinquency rules as regular garbage service: an account becomes delinquent ten days after billing, and the director of public works can suspend collection if the bill remains unpaid past thirty days, restoring service only once the accumulated fees plus ten percent are paid. Apartment complexes that cannot use the parish's collection service may seek an exemption from the monthly charge by affidavit to the director of public works, though that exemption cannot be applied retroactively.
