Kenner, LA Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

Kenner Code of Ordinances § 9½-4(e) sets the baseline pickup rule for the city: every container used to accumulate refuse, whether at a house, apartment, or business, must be emptied at least twice a week. That collection minimum works together with subsection (b), which independently forbids letting refuse remain inside a house, building, cellar, or outhouse long enough to create a nuisance or health hazard, so a resident cannot simply rely on the twice-weekly floor if garbage is already causing odor or pest problems before the next scheduled pickup.

The section defines 'refuse' to include garbage, rubbish, ashes, and animal or vegetable waste from animal quarters, and separately defines 'garbage' as putrescible waste matter, so the twice-weekly rule reaches essentially all household and business waste except sewage. A cross-reference in the Code ties this collection standard to Kenner's littering ordinance at Section 7-171, and the fee for the collection service itself, along with billing and delinquency rules, is set out in the neighboring Section 9½-5. The Kenner Department of Inspections and Code Enforcement enforces the container and pickup standard, and a property owner, lessee, or agent who fails to meet the twice-weekly emptying requirement is guilty of a municipal offense under subsection (k), punishable by up to a $200 fine, up to 30 days in jail, or both, with each day of noncompliance a separate violation.
