South Fulton, GA Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

Sec. 6-2003.12 (Ord. No. 2023-014, 5-23-2023) is the code's holiday clause. It says the service providers will not provide services on up to six holidays, names three of them (New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day), and leaves three others to be specified by the city manager. The only promise it makes to residents is that customers will be provided an alternative collection date. It does not say what that date is.

The city's Holiday Service page supplies the date rule. It lists six holidays: New Year's Day (January 1), Martin Luther King Day (third Monday in January), Juneteenth (June 19), Independence Day (July 4), Thanksgiving Day (fourth Thursday in November) and Christmas (December 25). Its opening paragraph says the program delays service for holidays five times per year, yet the list names six, and the page does not say whether the list is the city manager's designation under the code.

The rule itself is one sentence: "If your day of service falls on a weekday holiday, service will be pushed back one day." The page's example is a Tuesday holiday, where collection moves to Wednesday and the delay runs through Saturday. "Service will return to the regular schedule on that following Monday."

For this season, Thanksgiving Day is Thursday, November 26, 2026, Christmas Day is Friday, December 25, 2026, and New Year's Day is Friday, January 1, 2027. All three are on the city's list and all three are weekdays, so the weekday-holiday sentence covers each. The page prints standing dates such as January 1 and December 25 but no year, no 2026 or 2027 route calendar and no Friday example. Christmas Eve (Thursday, December 24), New Year's Eve (Thursday, December 31) and Veterans Day (Wednesday, November 11, 2026) are not on the list, and the page says nothing about them.

The page does not say who it covers, but Sec. 6-2003.1(a) makes the city exclusively responsible for the collection and disposal of all solid waste, and bulk waste within the city limits, and Sec. 6-2011.6(a) lets the public works director, or designee, prepare collection schedules for city manager approval. Sec. 6-2009.6(a) requires service providers to run customer education programs that include holiday schedules.
