Mount Prospect, IL Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

Section 19.202.A of the Mount Prospect Village Code sets the timing for residential pickup. Subsection A.4 bars any receptacle or other discarded item from the parkway or alley before four thirty o'clock P.M. on the day before the day designated by the Village for collection. The rule covers both receptacles and loose discarded items, so bulk pieces waiting for pickup follow the same clock. The collection day itself is the day the Village designates, and collection happens at least once each seven days unless a legal holiday interrupts it under A.3.

Subsection A.7 closes the loop: approved receptacles must be removed from the parkway or alley, as the case may be, after collection on the designated day of collection. Between those two rules the cart has a fixed window at the curb, from the late afternoon before pickup until removal after the truck has come.

Subsection A.8 covers service beyond the curb. An owner of a single-family or multi-family dwelling unit who wants available special services over and above curb service can secure them by separate contract with the exclusive residential franchisee, by paying an additional fee. That arrangement is a private contract with the hauler, not a Village program.

Subsection A.10 adds a bagging rule: all animal or vegetable matter must be placed in paper or plastic wrappers or bags before it goes into any receptacle. Under § 19.201.B the village manager can add rules in the "Solid Waste Services" booklet, and under § 19.201.C an owner who fails to dispose of solid waste properly pays any cleanup the solid waste contractor bills to the Village, plus an administrative fee set in appendix A, division II.
