Eden Prairie, MN Trash & Recycling: Recycling Requirements (2026)

Section 9.01, Subdivision 4 requires the owner, association, or management entity of a multi-family dwelling to make recyclable-waste collection service available to every occupant on a regularly scheduled basis, either performed personally by the owner and its employees or through a licensee under Section 5.36. The owner must give occupants written information describing how to prepare recyclables for collection and stating the collection dates and times. The owner must supply enough clean, sanitary containers to meet demand, replace stolen or broken ones, and place them where they do not block pedestrian or vehicular traffic while still complying with the zoning ordinance.

Collected recyclables must go to a processing center, an end market, or an intermediate collection center, never to a solid waste disposal facility, and must be hauled in a covered vehicle so material does not blow loose in transit. Subdivision 5 applies the identical schedule, notice, container, and transport-and-disposal duties to owners, associations, and management entities of properties in the OFC, I-2, I-5, I-Gen, FS, C-Com, N-Com, C-Reg, C-Reg-Ser, C-Hwy, TC, TOD and MU zoning districts that received a building permit for new construction after the ordinance's effective date, with container placement also required to comply with the trash and recycling enclosure standard in Section 11.08, Subdivision 4.
