Eden Prairie, MN Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

Eden Prairie does not run its own trash trucks; instead, Section 5.36 licenses private haulers to collect from residents and businesses, capping the number of residential licenses at five under Subdivision 3.B while leaving commercial hauling open to any number of licensees. Subdivision 6.A splits the City into collection districts by Council resolution, with each district assigned specific collection days, and bars a licensee or anyone else from collecting residential waste on any day other than the district's assigned day, except to pick up roll-off containers, handle a missed or special pickup, or work around a holiday landing on the district's collection day.

Operational rules in the same subdivision require licensee vehicles to be kept clean, leak-proof, and free of offensive odors, cap truck weight at eight tons per axle on any City street under Paragraph C, and under Paragraph D bar a licensee from operating in a residential district before 7:00 a.m. or after 8:30 p.m. on any day, and from operating in a residential district at all on Sunday. Licensees must show proof of $1,000,000 commercial general liability and auto coverage and worker's compensation insurance before the City issues a license, name the City as an additional insured, and carry the license visibly on every collection vehicle.

Trash charges must scale with the volume or weight collected under Paragraph J, so a hauler cannot charge every household a flat fee regardless of how much it throws away. Licenses expire December 31 each year and are subject to suspension or revocation for fraud or repeated noncompliance after notice and a hearing before the Director of Public Works.
