Eden Prairie, MN Trash & Recycling: Recycling Rules (2026)

Beyond the licensing and collection-day framework in Subdivision 6, Section 5.36, Subdivision 7 sets the substantive recycling rules for every hauler licensed in Eden Prairie. Paragraph A requires a licensee to collect recyclable materials from each customer "no less frequently than on a bi-weekly basis" and trash and organic materials "no less frequently than on a weekly basis," on the same days the hauler already collects other waste from that customer. Paragraph I lists the minimum materials every hauler must collect from residential customers and commercial establishments: aluminum recyclables, can recyclables, corrugated cardboard, glass recyclables, paper recyclables, and plastic recyclables, and Paragraph J extends organic-materials collection to single-family-through-fourplex customers on request, plus multi-family customers who already have their own curbside recycling container, a requirement the section says had to be available to residents by November 1, 2021.

Paragraph B is the enforcement backbone for the whole system: a licensee may not "deliver to, dump, or dispose of recyclable materials that have been placed in a container designated for recycling" at a disposal facility, so a hauler cannot quietly landfill what a resident sorted for recycling. Paragraph G bars charging recycling customers more than non-recycling customers for curbside service, and Paragraph E requires each licensee to send the City a quarterly written report breaking out, by material category, exactly how much it collected, plus counts of dwellings with curbside recycling and organics service. Haulers must also give each recycling customer at least one piece of Hennepin County-approved educational literature describing what gets collected, under Paragraph L.
