Milton, WI Trash & Recycling: Recycling Requirements (2026)

Section 62-11 of the Milton Code of Ordinances requires occupants of single-family and 2-to-4 unit residences, multiple-family dwellings, and non-residential facilities and properties to separate 21 categories of material from post-consumer waste, including lead-acid batteries, major appliances (white goods), waste oil, yard waste and brush, aluminum, bimetal, steel and glass containers, newspapers, corrugated cardboard, egg cartons, shrink wrap, chipboard, magazines, office paper, waste tires, and plastic containers numbered 1 through 7, plus any other material the state, city or another regulatory agency later designates. Section 62-10 backs this up by making it unlawful to dispose of any of those separated materials, items 5 through 21 on the list, in a landfill or to burn them in a solid waste treatment facility, with a narrow exception letting waste tires be burned with energy recovery.

Section 62-13 requires the city or its contractor to provide one recycling cart per dwelling for commingled collection of the listed items. Limited exemptions exist under Section 62-18 for properties that send waste to a Wisconsin DNR-licensed processing facility that recovers the same materials, for facilities burning less than 30 percent solid waste as supplemental fuel, or where the DNR has granted a variance under Wis. 11(2m). 00 general penalty that applies to other Chapter 62 violations.
