Redondo Beach, CA Trash & Recycling: Recycling Rules (2026)

Article 5 of Chapter 2, titled the refuse and recyclable anti-scavenging ordinance of the City of Redondo Beach, governs what happens to materials once they reach the curb. 503 declares that refuse and recyclable materials placed at the designated collection location become the property of the City until the authorized contractor actually collects them. 504 makes it unlawful for anyone other than the authorized contractor to remove refuse or recyclable materials from the designated collection location, whether that location is a residential curbside spot or a designated area at a multi-family or commercial property.

The ordinance defines an approved recycling container as the bucket, bag, bin or other container supplied or identified by the City, the authorized recycling contractor, or the donor of the recyclable materials. 505 preserves an individual's own right to donate, sell or otherwise dispose of recyclable material they generate themselves, so the ban targets third parties picking through someone else's bin, not a resident's choice about their own recyclables before they hit the curb.
