Cicero, IL Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Cicero's yard-waste collection runs through Chapter 78's municipal collection framework rather than its own dedicated bag-limit or seasonal ordinance. Section 78-78 authorizes the town to contract with one or more qualified waste haulers for the collection, removal and disposal of ashes, landscape waste and recyclable waste, and puts the specific duties of that collection, which materials count as landscape waste, how it must be bagged or bundled, and what days it runs, into the hauler contract itself rather than spelling them out in the Code.

Section 78-76 defines 'municipal waste' to include landscape waste alongside garbage, household and commercial waste and construction debris, confirming that yard waste falls under Article III's municipal collection program for residences and apartment buildings of four units or fewer. Section 78-82 gives the superintendent of public works authority to adopt rules and regulations for the efficient storage, placement, pickup and disposal of all wastes, including landscape waste, and to enforce Article III; that authority is where residents' set-out days, container types and bag limits for yard waste actually come from, published by the department rather than fixed in the Code text.

High-density residential buildings covered separately by Section 78-119 are additionally encouraged, though not required, to add composting of yard waste as one of the optional source-reduction measures in their building recycling plan.
