Bossier City, LA Animal Ordinances: Cat Rules (2026)

Section 14-81 of the Bossier City Code makes it unlawful to own, keep or harbor a cat within the city unless the cat is vaccinated against rabies, with a metal certification tag worn on its collar or harness at all times. Cats caught at large without a current tag may be impounded by the Bossier City Animal Control Division (ACD). Duplicate rabies tags are available from the ACD at no charge. Section 14-82 fills in the vaccination mechanics: the shot must be given annually or triennially under Louisiana Administrative Code Title 51 Part III Section 103, the vaccinating veterinarian issues a serially numbered certificate and matching metal tag, and tags are not transferable between animals; a person who fails to obtain a required tag or who counterfeits one faces the section 1-9 general penalty.

Section 14-66(1) adds a cat-specific nuisance remedy: if a cat is shown to have damaged another person's property with its claws, the ACD supervisor may instruct the owner to have the cat declawed or to confine the cat indoors, and failure to follow that instruction can result in the cat being seized and humanely disposed of. Section 14-65(i) separately requires a female cat in heat to be confined away from an unneutered male except for planned breeding. The Code sets no separate feral-colony or trap-neuter-release program; a feral cat caught at large falls under the same impoundment rule as any other unvaccinated, untagged cat.
