Bossier City, LA Animal Ordinances: Dog Leash Laws (2026)

Section 14-65(c) of the Bossier City Code bars any dog from running or being upon a street, alleyway, highway, common or public square unless a competent person keeps immediate control and restrains the dog with a substantial chain or leash of six feet or less. The Bossier City Police Department's Animal Control Division (ACD) enforces the rule and may seize and impound any dog found at large. Section 14-65(d) sets a 72-hour redemption window, exclusive of weekends and legal holidays, during which an owner may reclaim an impounded dog by paying impoundment and boarding fees and proving current rabies vaccination.

Section 14-103 layers escalating fees on repeat offenders: a first at-large impoundment carries a $25 (altered) or $50 (unaltered) redemption fee plus a $10 daily boarding charge, a second impoundment within two years rises to $50/$75, and a third rises to $100/$150. Section 14-103(3) also sets separate citation fees for the at-large violation itself, starting at $25 (altered) or $35 (unaltered) for a first offense and climbing to $100/$110 for a third. Section 14-101(e) makes an owner who deliberately lets a dog roam at large liable for a penalty under section 14-4, which in turn punishes any violation of the animal chapter under the Code's general penalty, section 1-9: a fine of up to $500.00, imprisonment up to 60 days, or both, with each day of continuing violation charged as a separate offense. Officers may write citations on the spot for any leash-law violation.
