Under Section 28-33(l) of the zoning ordinance, a home occupation is permitted only as an accessory use inside the dwelling, and clause (8) specifically addresses walk-in business: customers shall not visit the home occupation to purchase goods or services, excluding barber shops and beauty salons. The code does carve out that single exception, but immediately boxes it in: a home barber shop or beauty salon cannot occupy more than 200 square feet of floor area, can run only one washing station, and can serve a maximum of two customers per day.

Beyond the general customer ban, the same clause lists services that stay prohibited from a home occupation altogether no matter how the business is structured, including massage parlors, restaurants, veterinary hospitals and offices, commercial kennels, dog grooming and vehicle services. Practically, this means an Avondale resident running a bookkeeping practice, an online retail operation or a craft business from home can take orders, ship products and meet clients off-site, but cannot invite paying customers into the house or a garage-based storefront. The rule is enforced alongside the rest of Section 28-33(l), which also forbids exterior signage, outside storage, employees who do not live on the property and any equipment that produces noise, vibration or glare beyond the residence.
