Home occupations in Avondale must remain invisible from the street. Zoning Ordinance Section 28-33(l) prohibits signs, exterior display, and exterior storage of materials in connection with a home occupation - there is no allowance for a wall or yard sign advertising a home-based business. The ordinance does permit a vehicle displaying business signage of limited size (up to roughly six square feet) to be parked at the residence, but this is not a mounted advertising sign. The city's sign regulations (Zoning Ordinance Article 9, Sec. 28-191 through 28-204) reinforce this: residential districts allow address and identification signs - single-family residences must be identified by street numbers with minimum four-inch-high contrasting numbers - and subdivision identification signs, but they do not authorize commercial advertising signs for home businesses. Section 28-195 also restricts illuminated wall-mounted signs on building elevations abutting any residential district or use unless separated by a public street.
