Section 28-33(d) permits child care in the home providing care for up to ten children not related to the residents as an accessory use in certain residential zoning districts, but only if the operator meets a specific list of conditions. The city sets a minimum 300-foot separation between day care uses on the same street, measured from the closest property lines, so two home day cares cannot cluster together.

The operation is capped by traffic impact too: it shall not generate vehicular or truck traffic in greater volume than that normally expected in that residential zoning district.

Outdoor play areas need a six-foot masonry wall with self-closing, self-locking gates, and any pool on the property must have a barrier that meets Arizona State Statutes and the International Building Code. A center serving eleven or more children in conjunction with a church or school moves into the conditional-use-permit category under Section 28-34 instead of this accessory-use track.
