Beaumont, CA Home Business: Signage Rules (2026)

Section 17.11.110(B)(8) of the Beaumont Municipal Code sets the sign rule for home-based businesses in the City of Beaumont, California. A home business cannot involve the display of signs or advertising devices on the premises. The only exception is one unlighted sign, not more than two square feet in area, posted on a temporary produce display. That is the entire sign allowance: no wall sign, no yard sign and no lit sign, and the two square foot cap is a hard number.

The same clause carves out vehicle advertising. The sign prohibition does not apply to advertising on commercial vehicles, as long as the business is in full compliance with Section 10.12 of the City Code, or any other applicable provision on parking commercial vehicles, as amended from time to time. Subsection B(12) ties in the storage and parking of business vehicles, which must fully comply with Section 10.12 as well, and subsection A(5) allows a service business to keep only one vehicle of 2,000 pounds (one ton) or smaller.

Signs also count in a broader neighborhood test. Under § 17.11.110(B)(10), the activities of the business cannot be conducted in a manner that negatively impacts the residential area, and the City's determination can include consideration of the color of the building, construction, lighting, signs, sounds, noises and vibrations. A business that lights up or signs its house in ways that change the look of the block can therefore fail that test even if no sign section is cited. Where a produce display is used, subsection B(9) requires the valid annual City business license to be posted on it, so the display carries both the small sign and the license. The ordinance was last amended by Ordinance No. 1184 on June 3, 2025, and permits are issued by the Community Development Director.
