Doral, FL Landscaping Rules: Tree Trimming (2026)

Section 20-53(4), within Chapter 20's landscape maintenance standards, makes property owners responsible for maintaining the landscaping on right-of-way areas abutting their property, not just the lot itself. Item (4)a sets the numeric limit for the most common right-of-way screening plant: hedges parallel to property lines may not exceed 14 feet and must be kept neatly maintained and trimmed. Item (4)b makes clear the city does not regulate tree removal itself; that authority sits with Miami-Dade County, and Section 71-5 confirms tree removal permits and natural forest community vegetation removal permits are issued and enforced by the county's Department of Environmental Resources Management under Section 24-60 of the county code, not by the City of Doral.

Item (4)c closes the loop on hazard trees: dead trees must be removed, and damaged or diseased trees must be treated. Chapter 71's separate landscape maintenance section adds that any tree pruning citywide must follow ANSI A300 pruning standards, remove no more than one-third of a tree's canopy in a year, and limit heavier lateral-branch cuts to cases of hazard reduction or clearance pruning.
