Kokomo, IN Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Kokomo Code of Ordinances § 72.07 bars the driver of any commercial vehicle, including a truck or tractor with a registered gross weight over 7,000 pounds, or any semitrailer, tractor, or trailer, from parking on a street in a residence district. The rule reaches beyond delivery rigs to any qualifying commercial vehicle regardless of cargo. Two narrow exceptions apply: a genuine emergency, illustrated in the code by delivering construction equipment and materials to a building site, and a temporary stop while the vehicle is actively being loaded or unloaded.

Neither exception covers overnight parking or storage; once loading or unloading finishes, the vehicle must leave the residential street. The rule sits alongside § 72.09(E), which separately bars parking any vehicle whose gross weight, including its load, exceeds 7,000 pounds on any street citywide (not just residential streets), and § 72.09(B) through (D), which cap the width, height, and length of trucks, semitrailers, and buses parked on any Kokomo street outside of active loading or unloading. Both § 72.07 and § 72.09 exempt vehicles on a state highway within the city and disabled vehicles whose operator has placed warning flares 100 feet ahead and behind.

Enforcement runs through the Police Department, and a violation of § 72.07 is charged and paid at the Traffic Division like other parking tickets under § 72.99(A).
