Orem City Code 19-3-4 prohibits parking any vehicle or trailer 25 feet or longer (or over 1.5 tons rated capacity) on a public street in any residential zone at any time, and bars the same large vehicles in commercial or industrial zones between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m.
Orem regulates oversized and commercial vehicles primarily through Orem City Code 19-3-4 (Large Vehicles and Trailers). In residential zones it is unlawful at any time to park on a public street any vehicle or trailer, or combination, having an overall length of twenty-five feet (25') or more or which exceeds a rated capacity of one and one-half (1.5) tons. In commercial or industrial zones the same large vehicles may not be parked on a public street between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. Three exceptions apply: (A) when the vehicle is actively involved in permitted construction, landscaping, or other work on or at a specific residence, building, or commercial enterprise; (B) during an emergency requiring parking at a particular location; and (C) when the vehicle is owned or operated by federal, state, or local government and parked for governmental purposes. Statewide, Utah Code 41-6a-1404 governs how any vehicle (including large commercial trucks and trailers) may be left standing on a roadway, requiring an unobstructed width opposite the vehicle and a clear 200-foot view in each direction. Related Orem provisions bar parking a motor vehicle or trailer on a vacant or another person's lot to display it for sale without a City business license (19-3-7) and prohibit displaying a vehicle for sale on a highway, street, or shoulder (19-3-8).
Parking an oversized or heavy commercial vehicle in violation of Orem City Code 19-3-4 is subject to citation by Orem Police and possible impound under Chapter 19, Article 4. A violation of the Utah roadway-parking statute (41-6a-1404) is an infraction. Unlawful vehicle-for-sale displays are cited under 19-3-7 or 19-3-8.
