Pico Rivera treats motor homes, travel trailers, and boats as oversized vehicles that cannot sit on public streets from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. without a permit, and its zoning code bars RVs and boats from residential front yards except on a legally permitted driveway.
Two parts of the Municipal Code govern RVs and boats. Under Chapter 10.80, an oversized vehicle is any vehicle, motorized or not, exceeding eighteen feet in length or eighty inches in width or height, which captures most motor homes, travel trailers, and boat trailers. No such vehicle may park on any public street, alley, or right-of-way between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. unless it displays a temporary permit issued under Section 10.80.030. Separately, off-street parking rule 18.44.050 prohibits storing a recreational vehicle in the required front yard, or the street-side yard of a corner lot, of residential property, allowing it only on a legally permitted driveway. Living in an RV parked in the public right-of-way is banned by Chapter 10.42.
Leaving an RV, motor home, or boat on a public street between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. without a Section 10.80.030 permit, or storing one in a residential front yard instead of a permitted driveway, may bring citation and tow.
