Grand Junction, CO Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Grand Junction Municipal Code § 10.08.080(a) requires a vehicle parked on a two-way roadway to sit with its right-hand wheels parallel to and within 12 inches of the right-hand curb, which locks parking to the same direction as the travel lane and rules out nosing in against oncoming traffic. On a one-way roadway, § 10.08.080(b) lets a driver use either the right or left curb, provided the car still parks parallel and in the direction of authorized travel. Section 10.08.170 layers on a list of places where stopping, standing or parking is banned outright regardless of curb position: sidewalks, intersections, crosswalks, and within 30 feet of a safety zone are covered in subsection (a), while subsection (b) adds standing or parking within five feet of a public or private driveway, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, within 30 feet of a stop sign, yield sign or signal, and within 20 feet of a fire station driveway (75 feet on the opposite side).

Peace officers working traffic enforcement from a marked patrol vehicle on an arterial or collector street are exempted from these distance rules while on duty. GJMC § 10.08.210 separately makes it unlawful to park in violation of any posted sign describing these or other restrictions. The Grand Junction Police Department issues citations, and § 10.08.030 governs how a penalty assessment notice is affixed to the vehicle or, if a member of the public supplies dated photographic evidence of the violation, mailed to the registered owner instead.
