Kenner, LA Short-Term Rentals: Short-Term Rental Permits (2026)

Section 12.16(d)(1) of Kenner's Unified Development Code prohibits any short-term rental from engaging in the business of renting rooms or facilities without first filing an application, initial or renewal, with the Department of Inspections and Code Enforcement and obtaining a lodging accommodation license. Short-term rentals already operating when the ordinance took effect were given six months from that effective date to file a completed application or face the penalties in the section. A hotel or motel license already held in good standing before the ordinance is recognized as a valid lodging accommodation license without a separate application.

The license cannot be transferred from one place or person to another, the city will refuse to renew a license for any establishment with an outstanding code violation notice older than forty-five days, and the license must be renewed annually by November 1 of each year. Under Section 12.16(e), the application process also requires ownership documentation, proof of at least $500,000 in general liability insurance, photographs of the property, and a criminal background check by the Kenner Police Department covering convictions in the ten years before the application, along with approval from the city attorney's office. Section 12.16(k) makes operating or even advertising a short-term rental without a valid license a separate criminal offense for every day it continues.
