Abington, PA Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Section 108-5.B of the Township Code sets a strict 12-hour window on curbside refuse placement: receptacles cannot go to the curb more than 12 hours before disposal time, and must come back off the curb within 12 hours after collection empties them. The rule sits within Article II, Health Nuisances, adopted July 9, 1959 by Ordinance No. 955, alongside a broader ban in Section 108-5.A on letting garbage, dead animals or decaying organic waste drain or sit exposed on any street, waterway or private property, occupied or vacant.

Together the two subsections mean a resident cannot leave a trash cart at the curb all week, and cannot let uncollected garbage accumulate visibly on the property either. Abington's Public Works Department runs weekly refuse collection, and Code Enforcement responds to complaints about carts left out too long, common in dense sections of Willow Grove, Glenside and Roslyn where trash lines the curb on non-collection days. The provision predates modern automated-cart collection but still governs cart timing because the township never repealed it when collection equipment changed.
