Abington, PA Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Section 92-40 of the Code of the Township of Abington defines yard waste as tree clippings, bush clippings, grass clippings, flowers and plants, and tree branches or yard debris, but excludes dirt and stones. Under § 92-41(G), residents must put yard waste in approved biodegradable bags or cans, or tie it in bundles that do not exceed four feet in length or 50 pounds and contain nothing thicker than three inches in diameter. Section 92-42(D) repeats the same bag, can or bundle standard for collection and adds that yard waste, tree and bush clippings should be placed curbside or at the authorized location on the regular refuse collection day, rather than waiting for a special bulk week reserved for leaves.

This distinguishes yard waste from leaf waste, which under § 92-42(C) can instead go out for bulk collection on specially designated weeks. Because yard waste is classified as a recyclable material under § 92-40's broader definitions, it must be kept separate from bagged household garbage rather than placed in a municipal waste can, and multifamily dwellings of four units or fewer follow the same residential rule while larger multifamily, commercial, retail and institutional properties arrange their own separation and collection under § 92-44. A resident who bundles branches over the four-foot or 50-pound limit, or thicker than three inches, is not in compliance with § 92-41(G) and § 92-42(D), and the Township's recycling enforcement provision, § 92-45, applies a fine of $10 to $300 per day for any violation of the article, including noncompliant yard waste bundling or placement.
