Woodland, CA Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Woodland Municipal Code Section 13.08.160(A) sets the collection window for residential containers: carts may be set out no earlier than 24 hours before the scheduled collection day, but no later than 6:00 a.m. on collection day, including on holidays. Subsection (B) requires every container to sit at least three feet away from obstructions such as parked cars, trailers, motorhomes, fences, portable basketball hoops, lampposts, mailboxes, or other containers, and requires the resident to move containers off the street and back onto private property as soon as possible, but no later than 24 hours after collection.

For most single-family homes, carts go at the street curb or the edge of the road right-of-way with the wheels in the gutter and the handle facing the house. Where a home has no street access, the City may instead direct service through an alleyway, defined as a recorded public-access easement near or between residential properties, with the container's base on a stable, level surface and the handle facing the residence; homes on private roads must set containers at the nearest road right-of-way, again with the handle facing the road shoulder.

The City Sanitation Officer administers these placement standards, and Section 13.08.170(F) separately bars placing any solid waste, recycling, or organic waste container so that it blocks vehicular or pedestrian traffic, falls within a visibility triangle, or obstructs egress from a building.
