Coon Rapids, MN Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Coon Rapids does not run a separate City bulk-pickup program; instead, Section 8-215(1) of the Code of Ordinances folds oversized-item disposal into each licensed hauler's regular collection duties. Materials too large or too numerous to fit in the required residential containers may be placed in an orderly manner at the curb, but only if the resident has made prior arrangements for that pickup with their licensed hauler. Because bulk pickup runs through the private hauler rather than the City, the fee, scheduling, and any item restrictions come from that hauler's own service policy, which Section 8-218 requires the hauler to share with the City within 30 days of a written request.

If a hauler declines to take a large or bulky item, whether for weight, contamination, or another cause, or skips a scheduled pickup because of weather, Section 8-224(1)(f) requires the hauler to notify the affected resident of the refusal; failing to give that notice triggers a $300 administrative penalty per occurrence, payable by the hauler after a citation, hearing, and possible appeal process laid out in Section 8-224(2) through (6). Bulky yard debris, such as brush piles or unstacked wood, falls instead under the separate yard-waste storage limits in Section 8-206(3) and is not covered by the curbside bulky-item allowance in Section 8-215(1).

Residents who dump large items on public streets or another person's property without consent, rather than arranging hauler pickup, separately risk the unlawful-deposit misdemeanor in Section 8-203.
