Old Bridge, NJ Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Chapter 265's storage-and-disposal rules start from a general ban: § 265-9A makes it unlawful for any owner or occupant to store or permit storage of household waste, expressly including bulky items such as appliances, furniture and mattresses, anywhere on the property. Subsection B then creates the exception that makes curbside bulk collection possible: materials gathered on a property for periodic pickup by an authorized solid waste hauler may be stored, but only for up to 10 days. Anything left longer reverts to an unlawful storage violation under Subsection A.

Subsection C backs this up with a demand-and-prove mechanism: the Township Business Administrator, any police officer, a designated Township or Middlesex County health representative, or any code enforcement official can require an owner or occupant to produce proof, such as canceled checks, receipts or a written contract, that the property is covered by an authorized hauler for solid waste disposal. Section 265-9E further defines 'solid waste' to include garbage, refuse and other discarded material but exclude recyclables collected under a governmental recycling program. Tires get their own bulk exception in § 265-10: it is unlawful to store or permit storage of tires on residential property, except when the tires are gathered for the municipality's periodic bulk pickup.

Violations of either section fall to the Township's general penalty under Chapter 1, Article II, since Chapter 265 sets no chapter-specific fine for storage offenses.
