Old Bridge, NJ Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Article VII of Chapter 432, adopted August 16, 2004 by Ordinance No. 28-04, establishes the Township's yard waste collection and disposal program to protect public health, safety and welfare. Section 432-34 defines 'yard waste' narrowly as leaves and grass clippings, and 'containerized' as placement in a trash can, bucket, bag or other vessel that keeps the waste from spilling or blowing into the street and reaching stormwater. Section 432-35 permits sweeping, raking, blowing or otherwise placing non-containerized yard waste at the curb or along the street only during the seven days immediately before a scheduled and announced collection, and even then it cannot sit closer than 10 feet to any storm drain inlet.

Placing yard waste at the curb outside that window, or in a manner that violates the 10-foot buffer, is itself a violation, and if the improperly placed waste is not cleaned up, the responsible party remains in violation until it is removed from the street. This article works alongside the separate 'Containerized Yard Waste' article at §§ 432-23 to 432-27, which independently bars sweeping or blowing uncontainerized yard waste into the street outside of containerized handling, showing the Township treats loose yard waste at the curb as a stormwater issue as much as a collection issue.
