Norman, OK Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

NCC 34-301 makes cart-based collection mandatory citywide: all owners, occupants, or other persons in charge of any premises must place garbage, trash, or waste in roll-out carts supplied by the City, not in random cans or bags. The carts come in three sizes (small at about 32 gallons, medium at 68 gallons, large at 96 gallons) and are built for automated pickup trucks. A property is limited to one roll-out container per pickup for municipal solid waste unless the Sanitation Department has authorized extra containers.

Once out, that cart is emptied on a fixed weekly cycle: the code states plainly that municipal solid waste will be collected one time per week, and residents are told not to mix solid waste with yard waste in the same cart. For nonresidential customers, the schedule is not one-size-fits-all: the Director of Utilities or a designee decides the size of commercial refuse containers and how many weekly pickups each commercial location gets, based on the volume that business generates. The carts themselves must be kept in good condition by the user, whether they hold combustible or noncombustible waste.
