Norman, OK Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

NCC 34-301(b) requires yard waste to go out tied in disposable bags or in watertight cans that hold between five and 35 gallons, have close-fitting covers and side handles, and weigh no more than 75 pounds when filled. Any can that is cracked, jagged, or otherwise likely to injure a collector must be replaced within ten days of notice from the Sanitation Department, or the Department may collect and dispose of it anyway. Pickup runs once a week, and yard waste has more setback room than trash: it can sit up to seven feet from the curbside or from the edge of the street where no curb exists, or in the drive approach under the same seven-foot limit.

The code is explicit that yard waste should not be combined with municipal solid waste in the same container. Tree limbs get their own rule: they should be tied in bundles or placed in containers no larger than 35 gallons, loose bundles cannot exceed two feet by two feet by four feet, and any limb over two inches in diameter will not be collected at all and should not be bundled in with yard waste. As with trash carts, yard waste containers placed at the curb must come out no earlier than noon the day before pickup and go back to the house side by noon the day after, except for alley-service and rural estate customers.
