Norman, OK Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

NCC 34-301(a) sets Norman's core trash pickup rules under Article 34-III, Sanitation Service. Every owner or occupant must use a City-supplied roll-out cart, sized small (about 32 gallons), medium (68 gallons), or large (96 gallons), built for the City's automated collection trucks, and may set out only one cart per weekly pickup unless the Sanitation Department has authorized extra carts. On collection day the cart goes within two feet of the curb or alley line, or two feet from where the street surface begins if there is no curb, with at least two feet of clearance on each side, and trash cannot be mixed with yard waste.

Yard waste follows its own placement rule in NCC 34-301(b): bagged or in watertight cans of five to 35 gallons with close-fitting lids and side handles, no single container over 75 pounds, set out no more than seven feet from the curb, also collected weekly; tree limbs must be bundled to no more than two feet by two feet by four feet, and limbs over two inches in diameter are not collected at all. Both cart types share the same clock: carts go to the curb no earlier than noon the day before pickup and must return to the house side by noon the day after, a rule that does not apply to alley-service or rural estate accounts.

NCC 34-302 covers bulk items separately: cardboard, furniture, and similar bulk refuse are scheduled individually and cannot sit at the curb more than a week before the scheduled date, and municipal solid waste or yard waste cannot be set out as bulk refuse.
