Lynwood prohibits fences made in whole or in part of chainlink, barbed wire, chicken wire, razor wire, fiberglass, corrugated plastic, or gypsum board. These materials are banned in every zoning district.
Lynwood Municipal Code Section 25-10-12(C) lists prohibited fence materials. Fences, in their entirety or in any portion, may not be comprised of the following materials: chainlink, barbed wire, chicken wire, razor wire, fiberglass, corrugated plastic, or gypsum board. This prohibition applies citywide across all zoning districts. Fences that were legally constructed before the current zoning code was adopted, but rendered nonconforming by it, are exempt from amortization under Section 25-10-12(D), meaning existing legal fences of these materials may remain but new installations may not use them. Because chainlink and barbed wire are expressly banned, residents must use approved materials such as wrought iron, wood or PVC picket, or block.
New fences using any prohibited material are violations enforced by Development Services and may be denied a permit or ordered removed. Only pre-existing legal fences are grandfathered.
