Beaumont, CA Noise Ordinances: Vehicle Noise (2026)

Section 9.02.110 of the Beaumont Municipal Code, part of the Chapter 9.02 noise rules adopted in Ord. No. 1067 on January 19, 2016, has three vehicle provisions. Subsection (B) limits vehicle horns, back-up warning devices and other devices meant to create a loud warning noise to situations where life, health or property are endangered or where the law requires them.

Subsection (H) makes it unlawful to operate a motor driven vehicle in a way that exceeds the noise levels in Section 9.02.050, whether the noise comes from how the vehicle is operated, its operating condition or a modification made to it. Under (H)(1), exhaust from a steam engine, stationary internal combustion engine, motorboat or motor driven vehicle must be discharged through a muffler or other device that effectively prevents loud or explosive noises. Under (H)(2), no one can run a stereo system, radio, electronic music device, television or similar device in a vehicle on a public street that is audible to a person of normal hearing sensitivity more than 50 feet from the vehicle.

Section 9.02.030 defines a motor-driven vehicle broadly, covering any automobile, truck, van, bus, motorcycle, minibike, go-cart or other self-propelled vehicle, on or off road, and aircraft. The Section 9.02.050 base ambient levels are 45 dB(A) from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and 55 dB(A) from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. in residential zones. Vehicle alarms have a separate 15-minute shutoff rule in the same section. Section 9.02.100 exempts public services such as street sweepers, garbage services and emergency response warning noises from the chapter.
