Hoboken, NJ Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 190-5, amended September 1, 2010 by Ordinance No. Z-54 and November 14, 2011 by Ordinance No. Z-136, sorts commercial vehicles into three weight and size classes. A large commercial vehicle weighs more than 3.5 tons, or weighs less but stands taller than 9.5 feet or carries a cargo area or work platform longer than 14 feet. A medium commercial vehicle weighs under 3.5 tons, stands under 9.5 feet, and carries a cargo area under 14 feet. A light commercial vehicle weighs under 2.5 tons with a cargo area shorter than the cab's height and under nine feet long.

Under Subsection B, no truck, bus, semitrailer, pole trailer, tractor or large commercial vehicle may park on any municipal street from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. any day of the week, and that ban extends to construction or excavation vehicles not sitting at a bona fide job site. Subsection C limits resident-owned overnight on-street parking to one medium and two light commercial vehicles per household, or alternatively one medium and one light vehicle together. Posted signs reading "No parking overnight for trailers, buses, trucks and commercial vehicles" serve as legal notice to owners and operators under Subsection D.

Section 190-44's chapter-wide violation schedule sets the fine for a § 190-5 overnight commercial-vehicle violation at $80, higher than the $50 charged for most other Chapter 190 parking violations, and the City may tow any vehicle sitting in a posted tow-away zone regardless of whether § 190-5 itself calls for towing.
