Hoboken, NJ Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Hoboken City Code § 190-11 designates dozens of individual curbside loading zones street by street, each described by exact curb-line measurements, for example a stretch of Adams Street beginning 62 feet north of the northerly curbline of Sixth Street and extending 25 feet, posted 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday with a 20-minute limit. No person may park in a designated loading zone except to load or unload goods and materials, and only for the posted time limit; parking beyond that limit, or for any other purpose, is a violation.

Property and business owners do not get a loading zone automatically: § 190-41 requires the owner to apply to the City Clerk with a $125 fee, after which the Business Administrator's office checks the request against state and local law before the Division of Traffic and Signals installs a sign. An applicant must show at least three businesses within a 200-foot radius of the proposed zone, and the Parking and Transportation Committee and Superintendent of Traffic and Signal review the request. Approved zones commonly run Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and a vehicle using the space must run its four-way flashers for the full 20-minute limit.

Enforcement is citywide: the Hoboken Parking Utility and Hoboken Police Department ticket vehicles parked in a loading zone outside the loading/unloading use, and § 190-44 sets the payable fine for a 'No parking loading zone' violation at $55, distinct from the $50 fines that apply to general no-parking and no-stopping violations elsewhere in Chapter 190.
