Chapter 10.40 (Commercial Vehicles) governs commercial-vehicle parking. Section 10.40.020(A) provides that 'no person shall park or leave standing any commercial vehicle having a manufacturer's gross weight rating of ten thousand pounds or more, or any truck tractor on any street.' Subsection B bars leaving any unattached trailer, semitrailer, trailer coach, special construction equipment, or special mobile equipment on a street unless attached to a vehicle capable of moving it. Subsection C exempts city, utility, and licensed-contractor vehicles in use for utility work, and commercial vehicles actually engaged in pickup or delivery of goods or construction materials. For residential property, Subsection D makes it 'unlawful to park or store any commercial vehicle, of an unladen gross vehicle weight in excess of fourteen thousand pounds, tow trucks, trailers, or other related equipment on private property within residential zones,' and limits the property to one commercial vehicle of 14,000 pounds or less per residential lot; this does not apply to passenger vehicles, pickups, vans, recreational vehicles, or utility trailers. The city may also designate specific streets where commercial vehicles are prohibited and post signs (Section 10.40.010), and Section 10.40.030 bars driving a commercial vehicle across a private driveway or sidewalk where prohibitory signs are posted.
