Kenner, LA Animal Ordinances: Beekeeping (2026)

Article III of Chapter 4 regulates apiaries citywide. Sec. 4-98 defines an apiary as an assembly of one or more bee colonies or hives in a single location, excluding any colony of feral or wild bees living naturally in the environment. In a residentially zoned area, no one may keep or maintain an apiary unless it sits at least 100 feet from every property line of the tract where it is located, measured from the nearest point on the hive. A beekeeper who cannot meet that setback may still keep bees if every adult resident within 300 feet of the hives, measured to the property line of each resident's dwelling, gives written permission.

Sec. 4-99 layers a state registration requirement on top: every apiary must be registered annually with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry and kept in accordance with applicable state and parish laws. Sec. 4-100 adds a standalone nuisance rule that applies even to a fully compliant, properly set-back apiary: it remains unlawful to keep an apiary that creates an unhealthy condition, endangers the health, safety or welfare of another person, or interferes with the normal use and enjoyment of public property or another person's property.
