Ogden, UT Parking Rules: Abandoned Vehicles (2026)

Section 10-5-20 of Ogden City Code flatly bans abandoning any vehicle on a highway or street, and creates a presumption of abandonment once a vehicle sits unattended for more than forty eight hours. 10 or under section 10-5-20, may treat it as abandoned once it has sat unattended on a public street for more than twenty four consecutive hours, or on other public or private property for more than seven consecutive days without the property owner's consent. Section 10-8-1(A)(9) separately authorizes impound of an 'abandoned junk vehicle' or 'automobile hulk', as those terms are defined in section 10-2-1, parked in the same place on a street or alley continuously for twenty four hours.

Once impounded under this chapter, section 10-8-1(C) requires the impounding officer to file a written report to the chief of police within twenty four hours identifying the vehicle. These rules operate alongside the twenty four hour snowbound-vehicle presumption in section 10-5-21(B), which similarly treats a vehicle left standing on a street more than forty eight consecutive hours after being plowed around as abandoned and subject to the same impound authority.
